The first of two releases recorded live with Joe Reyes at his home studio, December 2010 - March 2011. The 23 songs of this album and Shores of Erewhon were recorded spontaneously in groups of two or three with Hills on guitar and vocals and Joe on guitars. Some tracks have added instruments and many were single takes.

"Wolverton’s got some potent, quiet music, and the recordings make you feel like they’re right there, reckoning the quirks of our heritage right alongside them. What it leaves out is as important as what it throws together but is gloriously free of twang or self-conscious neo-traditionalism. Contemplative, affectionate, warm and gently flawed, it’s roots music sans self-importance, and Hills Snyder’s songwriting is witty and doleful and full of unexpected touches; as in 'Guts,' a small song that sounds like deeply personal footnotes to the human epic. You know how in 'Tangled Up In Blue,' you can’t tell whether the time frame is 19th century or Now? Kinda like that."

History Lesson

I love your dutch boy outfit
can I ride upon your bike
I love your dutch boy outfit
can I ride upon your bike
you can hide me in your attic
stick your finger in my dike

I like those heels and fishnets
I’ll have that croissant too
I like those heels and fishnets
I’ll have that croissant too
when you climb that Eiffel tower
show my resistance something new

I feel like taking pictures
why don’t you curl up on the bed
I feel like taking pictures
why don’t you curl up on the bed
you don’t have to eat cat food
I’ll open up some tuna instead

you are my destiny baby
and I love your birchbark canoe
you are my destiny baby
and I love your birchbark canoe
even in this peaceful kingdom
buckskin sure does look good on you

Lyrically, Wolverton is unanchored, very visual and moving equally through memory, story, and association, with dark streaks of tradition.
